How it works

1

Create a free account

Sign up with your email — no credit card required. Your free account includes 300 minutes of transcription every month, which resets at the start of each billing period.

2

Upload a file or record directly

You have three options:

  • Upload a file — drag and drop any audio or video file from your computer or phone
  • Record in the browser — click record and speak directly into your microphone
  • iOS app — record on your iPhone and upload from the app
3

Wait for transcription

NoteMate processes your recording in the background using AssemblyAI. Most recordings finish in 2–5 minutes. You'll see the transcript appear live as segments are completed — no need to wait for the full file to finish.

4

Get your summary

Once the transcript is ready, choose a summary format: lecture outline, seminar discussion, meeting notes, action items, interview summary, or brainstorm capture. Your AI summary is generated in seconds and saved alongside the transcript.

What you get from each recording

Full word-for-word transcript

Every word captured, broken into readable segments with timestamps. Search the full text instantly.

Clickable timestamps

Click any transcript line to jump straight to that moment in the audio. No scrubbing through the recording.

Speaker labels

Each speaker is identified and labelled automatically. Rename any speaker and the change applies everywhere in the transcript.

AI summary

Choose from six summary formats, generated by GPT-4 from the full transcript. Re-generate in a different format anytime.

Tips for the best results

  • Record in a quiet space. Background noise degrades accuracy more than anything else. A quiet room makes a significant difference.
  • Keep the microphone close. For in-person recordings, a phone mic placed centrally on the table works well. Avoid recording from across a large room.
  • One speaker at a time. Speaker identification works best when people don't talk over each other. Overlapping speech can cause segments to be mis-attributed.
  • Name speakers early. After transcription, rename Speaker 1, Speaker 2, etc. to real names straight away. It makes your summary much more useful.

Maximum file size: 2GB, audio or video. A larger file is rejected at upload — split or compress it first.

Frequently asked questions

Most recordings are transcribed in a fraction of their actual running time. A 60-minute lecture typically takes 2–5 minutes, depending on audio quality and current load.

NoteMate accepts audio and video recordings up to 2GB per file. A file larger than that is rejected at upload, so split or compress a longer recording before sending it.

NoteMate transcribes with AssemblyAI's Universal speech models, which detect the spoken language automatically across 99 languages — including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Japanese and Chinese. You don't need to pick a language before uploading. Accuracy is highest on clear audio, and some features — speaker labels in particular — are available in fewer languages than transcription itself. Notes are a separate choice from the audio: your summaries, titles, flashcards and quizzes can be written in any of 11 languages — English, Chinese, Spanish, Hindi, Arabic, French, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese — whatever language the recording was in, so an English lecture can produce Chinese revision notes. Set it once under Summary Language in Settings. The transcript itself always stays in the language that was spoken.

Yes. Upload any audio or video file of your call. Phone call audio quality is typically lower than in-person or video recordings, but AssemblyAI handles it well for most calls.
