Where do most everyday memory failures happen?

  1. Encoding Encoding failures are real, but the lecture's point was that the material usually did go in - what fails is getting it back out.
  2. Storage This assumes the memory decayed away. The tip-of-the-tongue example shows it is still there, waiting for the right cue.
